Monette comes to the church to confess. He believes he has committed a terrible sin. One rainy day Monette was driving. On his way he saw a hitchhiker at the side of the road. The man was holding up a sign. It said he was mute and deaf. He needed a ride. Monette picked up the poor man. The deaf passenger seemed to be sleeping, so Monette felt free to share all his secrets. He told the hitchhiker about his problems. His wife was cheating on him. She also embezzled a lot of money and was propaply going to be arrested soon. After some time, Monette stopped the car at the rest area. He left the passenger for some time. But when he returned, the hitchhiker wasn't there. And two days later Monette heard shocking news.
