The main character of the novel is Holden Caulfield. He is a teenager. We see all the events through the eyes of this boy. We breathe with him, hear his thoughts and feel his emotions. Holden feels the falsity in the world around him. He considers himself smarter than anyone else. Still he sincerely wonders at the attitude of people towards him. Holden changes several schools. He does not find a common language with his friends. He likes one girl but offends her. The boy gets into a trap of contradictions. Holden does not want to be alone. At the same time he is annoyed with this society. The stubborn teenager tries adult life: a bar, a girl, a defeat in a fight, a homeless life. People around seem to be hypocrites to him. Where is the way out? What is happiness?
