This book is based on a true story. Later a very successful film with George Clooney in the title role was made on it. The plot shows a small town. The local citizens are earning a living mostly out of catching swordfish. The reader meets the captain of a small ship named Billy Tyne. He returns to his hometown after he was unable to catch enough fish. So the crew does not have time to relax or stay with their families. Billy encourages them to go out into the sea again. Each of the crew members has serious problems. But these problems can be solved with a lot of money. And it is easy to get it at sea. The crew agrees to go out into sea despite the end of the fishing season. None of them knows that they are to get into the most dangerous adventure in their life.
