This happened when protagonist was young. In the middle of a hot summer, he found a needle in a haystack while walking with his friends George and Kathleen. He put his hand into the stack, and when he took it out, he saw that a needle had stuck into his finger. Everyone was surprised. The wound was quite deep and the blood was flowing abundantly. But this did not spoil a pleasant sunny day. After this day, the guy began to be called the Needle. Many years later, the man is looking at the photos where he and his friends are so young and happy. When the Needle meets Kathleen next time, they are about thirty. The girl has changed a lot. She has lost her beauty and turned into an adult haggard woman. Next to Kathleen, there was her husband - a large man with a beard. The surprised Needle recognized his friend George in this man.
