This is a story about the life of a girl named Bea. She has no home and lives under one of London's many bridges. Among all the girl's possessions are two bags containing a coat, boots, and a hat. There is also a baby dress - her main treasure. Why is this dress so important? She doesn't remember. Bea spends her days observing people passing by, but they don't even notice her. Her life is monotonous and rather sad. One day, a policeman approaches Bea and he has a long talk with the unhappy girl. He tries to find out what her life was like before she lived under the bridge. But Bea doesn't remember, even though she tries very hard to recall everything.
